Operations Supervisor
Bartels Environmental Services Inc.

WHO WE ARE
Bartels Environmental Services Inc. (BESI) is Ontario’s recognized leader in sustainable soil nutrient management, transporting and land applying biosolids, digestate, and organic waste materials for beneficial agricultural reuse, reducing the need for commercial synthetic fertilizers. We operate across the province and take serious pride in doing work that’s good for the land, good for our clients, and good for the environment.
Are you the kind of person who can juggle a dozen moving parts and still make sure every crew member, piece of equipment, and client expectation lands where it needs to? Do you thrive in environments where problems get solved in the field, not just on paper? If so, please read on!

THE DETAILS
Status: Full-Time, Permanent, Salaried
Hours: Monday – Friday with flexibility required, including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays based on operational needs
Working Conditions: Field-based across multiple sites; London, ON
Compensation: Competitive salary, commensurate with experience

WHAT YOU’LL DO
As Operations Supervisor, you’ll own the day-to-day pulse of BESI’s field operations, keeping crews moving, equipment running, clients informed, and projects on track. That means:
• Planning and scheduling field crews and equipment across active projects to hit productivity targets while managing costs and hours of service
• Coordinating with the Nutrient Management Supervisor and Project Supervisor to ensure land availability, project staffing, and smooth daily operations
• Communicating proactively with clients, farmers, and the operations team, keeping all stakeholders aligned from scheduling through delivery
• Overseeing compliance: maintaining up-to-date documentation (CVOR, insurance, ECAs, and more) and ensuring all land application paperwork meets Ministry requirements
• Managing equipment maintenance schedules in coordination with the Fleet Manager and organizing repairs with vendors as needed
• Setting daily and weekly productivity goals, monitoring progress, and reporting to the General Manager
• Ensuring invoicing information is passed to the Operations and Billing Coordinator accurately and on time
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with contractors, suppliers, and business partners
• Modelling a safety-first culture by reporting incidents, acting as a management representative for the Joint Health and Safety Committee, and holding the team accountable to protocols
• Mentoring and supporting your field team through regular feedback and a collaborative leadership approach

WHAT YOU BRING
• At least 5 years of progressive management experience in agriculture, environmental services, or a related industry
• A post-secondary education in agriculture, environmental studies, or a related field (equivalencies considered)
• Demonstrated knowledge of agricultural environments, equipment, safety practices, and regulatory requirements
• Strong communication skills; you’re as comfortable talking to a farmer in a field as you are presenting a report to management
• Proven problem-solving and conflict resolution ability
• A valid driver’s licence and comfort working across diverse field conditions

WHO YOU ARE
Experience gets you in the door, but the people who thrive in this role tend to share a few things that don’t show up on a résumé:
• You’re a natural organizer with a bias for action. When the schedule shifts at 6am, you’ve already got a plan B.
• You lead by example. Your crew follows you because they respect you, not because of your title.
• You’re calm under pressure. Things go sideways in the field. You don’t panic; you problem-solve.
• You’re accountable to your team, to your clients, and to the standards of the job. You don’t let things slide.
• You’re genuinely comfortable outdoors and in the field. This isn’t a desk job and that suits you just fine.
