The Financial Controller is a key finance leadership role responsible for overseeing all accounting, tax, regulatory, and financial reporting activities for the U.S.- based entities within the Bartels Group portfolio, including Ox OnSite Inc., Ox Equipment Inc., and related ventures. This hands-on role will lead compliance with U.S. GAAP, manage multi-state tax and payroll requirements, support U.S. strategic initiatives such as joint ventures, and serve as a financial partner to operational leaders. The Financial Controller will work closely with the Director of Finance in Canada while being embedded in the day-to-day U.S. operations, ensuring responsive, accurate, and proactive financial stewardship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Lead and manage the monthly financial close process for U.S. entities, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
- Maintain general ledger, fixed assets, and inventory accounting systems, ensuring proper capitalization, valuation, and cost controls.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors for U.S. statutory filings and audit readiness.
- Monitor and report on key financial KPIs, cash flow forecasts, and variances to budget.
- Support strategic initiatives, including the financial evaluation of new ventures or partnerships.
- Align financial reporting with the group’s consolidated reporting processes while adhering to local standards.
- Prepare internal financial reports for U.S. leadership and the Director of Finance.
- Maintain and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance.
- Manage all U.S. tax compliance activities, including corporate income tax, sales and use tax, franchise tax, and multi-state payroll tax.
- Coordinate and oversee timely preparation and submission of all federal, state, and local filings.
- Support tax planning in partnership with the Director of Finance to align with overall global tax strategy.
- Navigate multi-state requirements across 15+ jurisdictions including licensing, registration, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. employment-related tax rules (FICA, FUTA) and payroll garnishment orders.
- Assist in internal audit activities and ensure financial systems are audit- and due diligence-ready.
- Oversee U.S. insurance reporting, licenses, and statutory obligations.
- Act as the financial partner to the U.S. operational leaders, providing guidance on cost controls, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Implement and monitor the purchase order process for accurate cost tracking and decision-making.
- Lead or support the budgeting process for Ox OnSite and Ox Equipment, including monthly variance analysis.
- Develop and communicate financial best practices tailored to U.S. operational realities.
- Collaborate with the Canadian finance team to maintain appropriate segregation of duties while maintaining operational responsiveness.
- Provide training and financial insight to U.S. managers on budgeting, expenditure, and cost recovery.
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP, state and federal tax laws, and payroll requirements.
- Strong analytical, budgeting, and financial modeling skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- Hands-on approach with ability to operate independently and solve problems in real-time.
- Proficiency in accounting systems such as Business Central or equivalent ERP platforms.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Active U.S. CPA designation (or equivalent) required.
